OpenMedia.ca campaign update from the Hill

As many of you know, we at OpenMedia.ca recently released a comprehensive report that establishes the need for the principle of openness to guide digital policy in Canada. We had asked you to put the report into action by sending it to Prime Minister Stephen Harper and to your MP at http://openmedia.ca/report and you delivered. Nearly 20,000 of you sent this report to your MP. We think this is by the far the most citizens to actively engage in distributing a report that this country has ever seen. How many other research reports are emailed to policy-makers by over 20,000 people? This is all because of you - thank you!

To reinforce your efforts, we at OpenMedia.ca approached every MP who had declared themselves a "pro-Internet candidate" during the 2011 election, and requested meetings to discuss digital strategy. The following pro-Internet Members of Parliament accepted our invitations, and have agreed to meet with us...

..Wednesday:

  • Bruce Hyer (NDP, Thunder Bay Superior North)
  • Frank Valeriote (Liberal, Guelph)
  • Andrew Cash (NDP, Davenport)
  • Joyce Murray (Liberal, Vancouver Quadra)

...on Thursday:

  • Geoff Reagan (Liberal, Halifax West, Critic for Industry and Consumer Affairs)
  • Scott Brison (Liberal, Kings-Hants)
  • Libby Davies (NDP, Vancouver East)
  • Hedy Fry (Liberal, Vancouver Centre)
  • Wayne Easter (Liberal, Malpeque)

Our report exists only because of the pro-Internet community: you submitted comments to the CRTC, spoke at our Town Halls, and shared your insights with us online, so we want to make sure you're included as we move forward. That in mind, we invite you to join us on Friday, June 17th at 6:00 PM EDT (3:00 PM PDT) for a live chat and debrief on our trip the Parliament Hill. Join the conversation (or sign up for an email reminder beforehand) here:

For the Internet,
