OpenMedia.ca and The Digital Economy Consultation
On May 10, 2010, the federal Minister of Industry announced a Digital Economy Consultation to help prepare a Digital Strategy for Canada. OpenMedia.ca has been critical of the narrowness of this consultation process. We did, however, want to make sure the government heard your voice. Since the government chose to ground the consultation in the economy rather than society at large, we made a submission putting an economic argument to support Net Neutrality - find it HERE
We also endorsed the Consensus Submission to the Digital Economy Consultation found below and available for download HERE. At the University of Toronto a group of faculty and graduate students responded to the consultation by convening an open collaborative process to prepare a submission. The key event was a Round table held on June 14, that was followed by a collaborative wiki. The process was convened by Andrew Clement and Karen Louise Smith with the support of Faculty of Information; Identity, Privacy and Security Institute (IPSI); Knowledge Media Design Institute (KMDI) at the University of Toronto .
The result was a consensus submission, endorsed by 78 individuals from academia, civil society organizations and the private sector.
We are especially pleased to note that the submission adopts the SaveOurNet.ca Coalition's position on Net Neutrality.
OpenMedia.ca is happy to endorse this impressive document and we plan to encourage the government to put it into action.
Here is a video that includes interviews with some of the participants of the initial round table including OpenMedia.ca board member Leslie Regan Shade.

Video games have evolved quite a bit since Pong, Pac Man and Space Invaders. Economists Incorporated reports that a study done for Entertainment Software Association called "Video Games in the 21st Century: This year's Report," showed $5 billion was going to the economy in 2009 because of these games. There was a 10 percent growth between 2005 and 2009 for the video game industry. This was good for the economy thinking about seven times the expansion of the economy was had in this time frame.Video games have expanded as time passes by.I hope that it will continue to help our economy to boost.
