Vancouver: Join the Awesome OpenMedia.ca Canvass Crew and help build a New Media Ecology!
Please Note: This position is based in Vancouver, BC.
OpenMedia.ca is a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization working to advance and support an open and innovative communications system in Canada. Our primary goal is to increase public awareness and informed participation in Canadian media, cultural, information, and telecommunications policy formation.
Do you think having accountable media, participatory journalism, and an open internet is important? How about helping to make media fresh? Want to work with a local, successful, youthful organization that is building a movement around these issues in Canada?
OpenMedia.ca is a group of dedicated, innovative Canadians committed to a collaborative approach to social change. We are currently seeking talented and creative volunteers to work with our young, driven organization. Demonstrate your enthusiasm in a team-orientated, good-humoured environment and be apart of a growing community of media change makers in Vancouver. You’ll have fun and learn essential communication, outreach, and fundraising skills.
Passionate, but don't know much about OpenMedia.ca or the state of Canadian media? Don't worry! We will empower you with the tools and training necessary for you to educate the public, help build our grassroots membership, and reclaim media as an essential part of a healthy democracy.
This is a dynamic canvass position that involves bringing media democracy and social change to the streets of Vancouver. The successful candidates will exercise their outgoing, personable and articulate nature in order to carry out public education and build a member base for OpenMedia.ca. This is an exciting, unique program that we’re hoping to expand over the coming year.
We at OpenMedia.ca understand that we are one piece in a great puzzle of people and organizations working to create fundamental change in our society. Therefore, our vision extends beyond the borders of our organization. While helping to build a grassroots membership and sustainable funding for our organization, OpenMedia.ca will also be using our presence on the streets to connect people to other independent publications, online news outlets and social change organizations. When it comes to movement building, we're serious!
Should you be one of the people chosen to join this project you will receive an honorarium for your dedication and hard work. Our goal is a self-sustaining employee-based canvass program, but until we reach that point we are offering $250 for those who commit to three months of volunteering and $500 for those who commit to five months.
On top of the honorarium mentioned above, we will work with you to develop leadership, journalism, web-media, movement building, and outstanding communication skills. Should you choose, your further involvement in the non-bureaucratic environment that is OpenMedia.ca is welcome.
